He Knows Too Much
Title: He Knows Too Much
Author: Alan Maley
Genre:
Story: It is a fiction that takes place in India and in England. The main character is Dick Sterling, a general manager of a multinational manufacturing company.
The story begins when Dick discovers a corruption affair in his company. A couple, the Visvanathans, negotiate contracts with the factory to get a percentage of the profits. But when Dick tells his boss, Keith Lennox, that the Visvanathans are implicated in this corruption, Keith asks Dick to close his eyes to the affair. Then Dick is forced to take early retirement. He begins to drink a lot and his wife, Sally leaves him. Later, he returns to India and meets several colleagues. He falls in love with an old friend’s daughter and when he finally discovers all the truth, she tells him to choose between her and vengeance.
My Opinion:
It was quite difficult for me to read this story. Eventually I understood it and I enjoyed it. I like the moral: ‘People are punished by what they become’. Lakshmi tries to make Dick understand that revenge is not the solution, and I agree with that. On the other hand, I found the end a little bit far-fetched: bad people are punished, Dick and Lakshmi are happy together and have children…
To conclude, I recommend He Knows Too Much to people who like good intrigues and who have a lot of vocabulary, because it would have been impossible for me to read it without my dictionary.
