Just Like a Movie
Author: Sue Leather
Genre: Thriller/Romance
Characters: Brad has dark hair and blue eyes. He is a handyman and Gina’s boyfriend. He loves to watch films and he wants to have a life like in the films, because he is a poor boy but he wants to become rich and marry Gina. He’s only looking for a way to get rich and doesn’t care that Gina always tells him that they can also be happy without money.
Gina has dark hair and she’s beautiful. She works at a school and she likes to watch films at the cinema with Brad. Gina has a difficult life because her mum is ill and she has to look after her mum. The other thing is, that she is a poor girl but she thinks that money isn’t everything in life.
Carrie is a rich girl. She has blond hair and is nice, but she’s alone because her parents died in a car accident, so she got all the money. Carrie needn’t work, but she sometimes she helps at school. Carrie is just searching for someone who loves her.
Story:
The scene takes place in Toronto. It’s a moment in Brad’s life.
Everything started four years ago, when Brad ad Gina met at the cinema in Toronto. They fell in love very fast and Brad invited Gina to Salvo’s Italian restaurant. He said that he wanted to marry her, but the problem was that they didn’t have any money.
Actually, Gina was a primary school teacher and Brad was a handyman, but for Gina, ‘money is not important’. Bard doesn’t agree. He thinks that they need money if they want to get married, have children, have a car, or a beautiful house. He dreams of living in Paris with Gina, like in the movies.
One Saturday night, Gina and Brad went to the cinema to see a movie called ‘Dead Money’. It was the story of a poor couple who wanted to become rich, like Brad. So he had an idea.
One day, he met Carrie, a rich and lonely girl. He took her out often and asked her if she wanted to marry him and she said ‘Yes’. He didn’t love Carrie but he wanted her to die to get her money and to marry Gina. But for that, he had to kill her!
What was he going to do? What was going to happen? Was he going to be successful?
You must read the book to know the end…
My Opinion:
It’s an original story with a structure that’s different from other books’. I find that the story is interesting and realistic because it shows that life is not just like a movie.
We have the right to dream but life isn’t always like in a dream. It’s for this reason that Brad wasted his life with Gina because he believed that life was a dream.
Otherwise, this book wasn’t difficult to understand, there are easy sentences and the author often repeats the same things. I also find that the pictures help us and they are very well drawn.
To conclude, I recommend this book to students or people who don’t speak very good English or who are learning the English language.
Also, it’s short and very quick to read because I read it in 15 or 20 minutes.

Title: Just Like a Movie
Author: Sue Leather
Genre: It’s a thriller because there is a suspense and actions; but too it’s a romance because there is a story of love.
My opinion: It’s a strange and captivating story. I find that this story is not unique, and it’s one of many stories like it. Because Brad’s ambitions can cause him to do bad thing, and in this text Brad’s ambition is fuelled by his love for Gina. To have these ambitions isn’t an error but the error that Brad has made is to confuse fiction and reality. He thinks that what can be done in films, can be done in real life. His dream, his love for Gina and his thirst for money faces him to kill. Maybe love sends him crazy or blind. The moral of this story is that money doesn’t always make you happy. Brad, in wanting to be rich lost his liberty and also the respect of Gina, his loved one.
Even if Gina has lost the man she loves, everything that happened allowed Gina to meet Carry, a beautiful friendship is formed.
To conclude, I loved this story, because it’s interesting (with a story of love), but too it’s realistic (with ambitions or dreams). Then, this book is not difficult to understand and it’s practice!
